Trivia and Not So Trivial:

More stuff about southwestern Illinois history:

.. "On the day I was born, said my father, said he, I've an elegant legacy waiting for thee..." ... (Over the Rainbow" ... from "Finian's Rainbow")

Trivia, and Not So Trivial,
about the Land of Goshen
and southwestern Illinois!

This is a special place!  In the beginnings of Illinois, ALL of the activity was here in SW Illinois, and our towns played prominent roles.

Even before that, it was appreciated by native Americans with colorful names.

We think it merits a place here, simply because it adds to the fun of living here.

Who lived here before?   What significant things did they do?   Why did they do it?   What factors brought them here and contributed?  What do we have today that they left to us?   What is their “Elegant Legacy”, still enhancing our lives today?

Our families have collected these tidbits of the history, events and people that have gone before, and we believe this site is a good place to share them with present and future citizens.

Indeed, many of the factors that made it attractive to native Americans and to pioneers are still inherent, supporting our present idyllic living environment.

But it’s also intended as a statement of appreciation for those that have passed before, thinking of them as we enjoy life here on the bluffs, contributing to our own to this day.

You might know it’s to be evolutionary…it will take us a bit to get all of it “up” on this site…and more comes our way all the time, so please keep coming back!

Here’s what’s intended:

This first section is designed to be integrated with newspaper ads.  There will be a background story here, sometimes linked to more information.  Fifty episodes are planned for the Intelligencer, and a few of the titles, but not the stories, will be posted here…with the expanded story added here weekly (to the top of the pile), for the 50 weeks.

But a lot of other events will be posted here about Edwardsville/Glen Carbon, but not intended for the newspaper, and probably not all at once, either….there’s simply too much!

And we will be starting to post events that relate to the larger geography …southwestern Illinois in General…Madison and St. Clair Counties and a bit more.  And that won’t be all at once, either.   We  hope you enjoy it!

Always on the buyers side!
